Biography

Jane Adams was born in Vancouver in 1943, she studied at the Vancouver School of Art under Jack Shadbolt, Orville Fisher, Don Jarvis, Roy Kiyooka, Takao Tanabe, Elizabeth Frink and Reginald Holmes; London, England at: Chelsea School of Art, Slade School of Art, and the Inchbald School of Design. A painter and book illustrator, her water colours were noted by Lawrence Sabbath in 1985 as follows, “Jane Adams’s watercolours are of wild turkeys, pheasants and geese from the marshes north of Manitoba. The birds are rendered in heightened, colorful reality, they dominate the picture frame and in their dramatic, personal and appealing terms make for a fine show by an immensely talented artist.” She did illustrations for two series of books published by the Waterloo Music Company of Ontario, entitled Music of Our Time (8 bks., 1980) and A la Jeunesse (8 bks., 1982). Experimented with fusions of realistic and abstract organic motifs.
